i’m going to feel the top rad hose to see if it gets too hot. i don’t have a working temp gauge so i’m scared the thermostat is stuck closed. i’m going to let the car warm up in park and then set idle speed after about 5-10 minutes of idling. but i’m still wondering if there’s a way to make park/neutral idle speed any lower. To mr rupp: after shifting through reverse and drive a couple of times it doesn’t make as bad of a noise. thank you all, couldn’t do this without help. IF I HAVE TO, I will edit this post most likely as a response to future posts. i will be working on this car for the rest of the day, trying to get it drivable. This is my last post for the next 24 hours. i might also go get an oil change from o’reilly and a temp gun from harbor freight. i will let it warm up and keep an eye on the overflow. but the thing starts up to darn easy and has 40psi of oil pressure according to an aftermarket gauge that i didn’t see before. the car has a lot of vapor coming out of the vent in the engine bay. in the time that it did run, i noticed it has an oil leak. To my knowledge the car isn’t running hot.

should i cut it back to where it isn’t cracked and try to attach a new wire to it? if i were to properly do it i would completely replace that wire, but i don’t want to destroy the harness. because that wire for the temp gauge goes into wire loom. If no deflection it could be the gauge or the associated wiring. If your gauge deflects then the problem is with your sending unit.

Just don't hold it to ground long at all as the gauge will have the full amount of current running thru it.

To mr jack in sac: do you know of a source i can get a 12v sensor? is it as easy as just the sensor itself? or do i need to get a 6v sensor and add a resister inline? does the wiring need to change? (if it weren’t cracked) speaking of the wiring, i never know how to properly execute old wiring. If you short the wire at your sending unit to ground the gauge should go to full deflection. Is it normal for park idle speed to be that high? i will then set idle speed around that rpm once hot. Outer bezel (with numbers) sold separately.
